Jobs, Charts, and Responsibility

My kids have been begging us for months now to earn real money so they can buy toys that we never buy them.  They don't want to do chores to earn money, they want to do "jobs" around the house to earn the money.  So this is step one of getting into this whole Parents who are now giving our kids allowances.  So what we are starting with is our interactive "job" charts for the kids.  To help them get super excited about doing "jobs" around the house to get money; I helped them put their "job" charts together.  They glued their titles on the top of their foam core boards.  Then they decorated them, with markers, then they hot glued Velcro onto their boards, and lastly helped me pick out pictures to match the jobs we've all agreed for them to do around the house.

    1. Good luck, for me this is a 3 step process before we can use it, so this is only step 1. I'd love to see what you come up with.

  4. I love that "earn real money" thing. Kids are not supposed to know what real money means, right? Anyway they did a great job, they're way more skilfull than myself :) Great job kids!

    1. Well it would have worked with "fake" money or something but they got real wallets from their grandparents and have been wanting to earn "real money" so they can take it to the store and spend it.

    1. I had the supplies, and it made for a fun day when it was too cold to go outside.

  7. I love the idea that the child makes his own chart. Do you find your son is more compliant since he took ownership in creating it?

    1. This is taking a little longer than planned, but we're done with step two now, so pictures will go up. Then all that's left is step three and we'll be able to start using these.

  9. I love the idea of job charts. I friend of mine just bought a really cute magnetic for her son for Christmas. My son is turning three tomorrow, and I think it would be a great idea to start one up for simple things like picking up toys. Thank you for this post!

    1. I really wanted the magnetic ones, but I felt like it wouldn't be as meaningful to my kids...this came to me one day.
