Movie Review: White House Down

Details: During a special tour of the White House John Cale and his 11 year old daughter Emily experience something no one ever wants to experience.  An attack from paramilitary men on a mission.  Main actors include: Jamie Foxx, Channing Tatum, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Richard Jenkins, and Joey King.  2013 movie.

My Review: my husband and I waited until this came to the Redbox to watch.  And after seeing it, I can imagine how awesome the experience at a theater would have been, because this is one of the best movies we've seen this year.  The acting, the plot, the filming are truly well done.  Jamie Foxx was a complete surprise, he wasn't his normal comical self, instead very much formal, and serious.  The ideals his character upheld in his role as the US president were incredible.  This movie can help bring the US people together because of how personal everything felt, even though it was just a movie, and a screen play, and fake characters.  Channing Tatum was his normal super self in this movie as well, and played a little bit of Bruce Willis's Die Hard character running around trying to kill the bad guys to save his daughter.  But he played it well, I would think that Willis would be proud of Tatum's acting in this movie.  The actress who play Emily Cale was my favorite all around.  She was very brave, level headed in a time of crisis, and I really liked how she used tools she had to help her "father" save her.  Look for it on sale during Black Friday sales events!

Every time I watch movies that protray hard desicions that our government might possibly have to make one day, my heart goes out to them.  I pray that they will be strong, and that their families will be safe.  I can't imagine doing their jobs, or knowing what how hard that must be.  Good luck to all those who are serving out country and protecting us!

Pros: amazing movie, plot, screen play, and cast of actors and actresses

Cons: none

My Rating: Thumbs UP

Bilingual Children's book review

Details:  This book is in a series to help teach children either Spanish or English.  Specifically this is the third book.  With fun bright cartoon characters, easy simple words and easy simple phrases children will want to read these to help them learn a second language.  The website works along side the books with songs, word searches, audio books, games, puzzles and more.  Easy way to help your children become Bilingual between Spanish and English.  You can buy these for your kindle and tablets through amazon.

Disclaimer:  I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

My Review:  The Book review: This is really cool.  This is the second book we've been able to test, try and review from this company.  My kids liked that it was actually a story this time, instead of just pictures with words that are more like flash cards in their minds.  They know the story of Cinderella, so that also helped a lot.  But because my kids are boys, they don't love it.  Again, a great book to use for anyone wanting to be bilingual, to learn English or to learn Spanish.  Teachers, parents, grandparents, and also home school parent's will enjoy using this book, and the whole series.  The last book in this series that I reviewed, the author commented that my review was short.  But when you are reviewing a short paged book there isn't a lot of content to review on.  In summary: this is a great book, and series in general.  I find that its helpful, captivating to read together as a family, or in groups of kids.  We look forwards to seeing more books we can use in our school.

The Website review: We love online resources, and helps, so having another one to add to our bookmarks is great!  My 6 year old loves the website.  He is so excited to learn Spanish in school.  The website is really user friendly, in fact it is even broken up into age groups: kindergarten, first grade all the way up to fifth grade.  As the teacher of a preschooler and a 1st grader I really love using the website games and tools along with the kindle (ebook) book.  Having different tools to help teach brings the love of teaching to the children better.  Its always more enjoyable to teach and learn if there are fun ways to do it.

Pros: fun, easy to use, simple to teach

Cons: none

My Rating: thumbs up for super cute, and fun!

28 Day Gratitude Challenge

Its November, and that means fall, beautiful colors on the trees, and Thanks Giving.  "The man who has nothing to be grateful for is a man who has fallen asleep in life." Jeffry R. Holland.  Life is so busy, life is so full of changes, falling asleep during life would be so awful to me.  I feel like all the good, all the joy, all the beauty in life would be gone.  Hope would no longer work.  So here's to being AWAKE during our life journey!  Here's to BEAUTY!  Here's to JOY!  Here's to HOPE!  We're starting a Month Long Gratitude Challenge to everyone.  Come join us one a day commenting with something you were grateful for that day.  Or write it in your journal or diary, for some may be very personal.

  1. I am thankful for the trees that turn color in the fall.  After living in Utah for 3 years, where there are very few trees, and they don't really turn color in the fall, this is something I will never take for granted again.
  2. I am thankful for family, who no matter who I am, what I am, what I do are there for me.  I am grateful for their love, support, understanding, and willingness to forgive easily.
  3. I am grateful for friends who have loved me, supported me, and stuck with me through my mistakes, through my growing up, through my learning experiences.
  4. I am thankful for my talents, for without them my life would not be busy, my life would not be fun, my life would not be beautiful.
